First Period of Academic Year 2024/2025
Head of Regional Development Master Program, students, and alumni done the field activities at IKN on October 24-28, 2024. This activity is part of 2024 Flagship Research carried out by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies (CESASS) UGM with the theme of Community Social Cultural Resilience entitled “Is It Social Polarization or Social Cohesion in Nusantara New Capital City of Indonesia?”. Activities include observation, structured interviews, indepth interviews and FGDs in Government Center Core Area (KIPP), IKN Area (KIKN), and IKN Development Area (KP-IKN).
The team led by Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T. (Head of Regional Development Master Program and Director of CESASS UGM), and followed by assistants Amandita ‘Ainur Rohmah, S.Si., M.Sc. (Regional Development Master Program Alumni), Nurina Aulia Haris, M.A. (CESASS Staff), and Mellinia Ananda, M.Sc. (CESASS Staff). Regional Development Master Program students as surveyors were Anindya Puteri Eka Susilowati, S.Si., Prananta Radika, S.Si., Tria Sofie, S.Si., and Kunastya Mulya Pinta Ramadhan, S.Si.
Research Sharing and Discussion on the topic of Geography and Health with Prof. Liliana Dumitrache from the University of Bucharest on Wednesday, October 23 at 09.00-10.30 WIB in the Siti Nurbaya Center Room, 5th Floor of KLMB with Head of Regional Development Master Program, Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., and students of Doctor of Geography, Regional Development Master Program, and Regional Development.
Guest Lecture with Prof. Liliana Dumitrache from the University of Bucharest on Regional Development Master Program and Master of Geography’s Research Design and Methodology course on Monday, October 21 at 15.15-16.55 WIB in room E602 with Head of Regional Development Master Program, Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., who also teaches Research Design and Methodology course.
Head of Regional Development Master Program became a talk show speaker “Better Urban Future: Implementation of Smart Cities” at the 2024 World Habitat Day and World City Day event organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center on Saturday afternoon, October 19, 2024 at 15.00 WIB until the end of the event. The event was also attended by students of Regional Development Master Program, Master of Geography.
Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., Head of Regional Development Master Program, Master of Geography UGM became a speaker at the “Smart City Planning Practice” course workshop with the topic “Application of the Smart City Concept in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN)”. This event was organized by the Master of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sebelas Maret on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Also participated in the event, Regional Development Master Program student, Anindya Puteri Eka Susilowati and several others through Zoom.

Head of Regional Development Master Program, Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., attended the 35th International Geographical Congress (IGC) 2024 held from August 24-30, 2024, in Dublin, Ireland. During the event, Prof. Rini had the opportunity to present on “Navigating Diversity: Smart City Initiatives in Indonesia” at the Commission of Governance: Smart City, Neighbourhood Change, and Spatial Inequality, as well as participate in sessions at the Urban Commission and the Information, Innovation, and Technology Commission.
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the Community Service Program Based on Appropriate Technology Application Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2024, was conducted with the theme “Strengthening MSMEs through Digital Branding, Digital Marketing, and Community Digital Literacy to Support Excursionist and MICE (Meeting-Incentive-Convention-Exhibition) Tourism Patterns in Sidoarum Village.” This event was organized by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies (CESASS) UGM, supported by the Directorate of Community Service UGM, Faculty of Geography UGM, and Sidoarum Village. Serving as the speaker and team leader was Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T. (Head of Regional Development Master Program). The next speaker was Dr. Wing Wahyu Winarno, along with training assistant Kuindra Iriyanta. The community service activity also involved students from the Regional Development Studies, Faculty of Geography UGM, namely Anindya Puteri Eka Susilowati and Atalla Rahadewi Neta.
