Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the GEO-PW Webinar Series IKN Regional Development Series #5 and Focus Group Discussion were held, with the theme “Creative, Innovative, and Smart Sustainable City Concept for the Capital City”. This activity is part of the Indonesian Collaborative Research (RKI), with a team consisting of UGM, UI, ITB, BRIN, Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia) and University of Yangon (Myanmar).
The event was opened with remarks from Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc. as Dean of the Faculty of Geography UGM, followed by Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T. as Host and Head of Regional Development Master Program, Master of Geography UGM.
The webinar session was filled by speakers from the Nusantara Capital City Authority (Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara/ OIKN): Prof. Mohammed Ali Berawi, M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D. (Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation), Mia Amalia, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Deputy for Planning and Land Affairs), and Drs. H. Alimuddin, M.Sc. (Deputy for Social, Cultural, and Community Empowerment).
The event continued with an FGD session with experts in the fields of urban planning, smart cities, and IT from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar to provide diverse perspectives from the three countries studied. The speakers were Dr. Phil. Hendricus Andy Simarmata, ST, M.Sc. (Head of the Indonesian Association of Urban and Regional Planners), Prof. Dr.sc.agr. Iwan Rudiarto, S.T., M.Sc. (Department of Urban and Regional Planning, UNDIP), Prof. Ir. Lukito Edi Nugroho, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, UGM) Dr. Lim Seng Boon (Department of Town and Regional Planning, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia), and Zin Mar Aye, M.A. (Assistant Engineer / Smart City Officer, Nay Pyi Taw City, ASEAN Smart Cities Network).
Serve as discussion facilitators were researchers involved in the 2024 RKI activities: Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T. (RKI Team Leader, UGM), Prof. Ir. (UI), Dr.techn. Wikan Danar Sunindyo, S.T., M.Sc. (ITB), Dr. Galuh Syahbana Indraprahasta (BRIN), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khoo Suet Leng (Universiti Sains Malaysia), and Prof. Khin Khin Soe (University of Yangon, Myanmar).
This activity aims to be a forum for discussion between all parties regarding the vision of realizing a creative, innovative, and intelligent national capital, by following the example that has been implemented in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar. This cross-country, agency, and university collaboration seeks to obtain good practices that can be applied in future regional development.
